ANCIENT EAST ULTRA CYLE

24th-27th August 2022   1100KM   4 DAYS

The Ultra Cyclists are back on the saddle for 2022.

They are very excite about their upcoming cycle in August 2022. They will embark on a 1,100 km quest over 4 days, cycling along the picturesque and historic "Ancient East” travelling down the east coast of Ireland. It spans from Derry city to Kinsale in Cork along the whole east coastline.

The cycle group have already raised €227,000 to date (over 6 ultra-cycles, covering 8,700km, across 5 different countries in just 25 days), for worthy causes and this year, the Ultra cycle’s sixth year, hope to raise another €50,000, bringing the total amount raised for Irish national & local charities to a staggering €277,000

The six brave cyclists will begin their cycle on Wed 24th August and complete the challenging journey on Sat 27th Aug, beginning at Derry city and finishing at Old Head in Kinsale, Cork. The cyclists will cycle along the coastline of the counties of Derry, Antrim, Down, Louth, Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford & Cork and all the coastal towns and cities on their journey.

The charities benefitting from this year’s cycle include Turn2Me, a national mental health charity, and the Mayo/Roscommon Hospice Foundation who fund palliative care services in the community and their two hospices and Hooves4Hospice who are raising vital funds for the cost of building a planned midland regional hospice for the counties of Laois, Longford, Westmeath & Offaly. The charities have stated that charity fundraising has dropped significantly during the pandemic, and that they are very grateful for the efforts of the cyclists involved, the supporters, the donors and everyone who gets involved.

All three charities offer fantastic support to people who are

struggling with isolation and mental health.

DAY 3 / 26th AUGUST 2022

Sandymount to Duncannon Beach is our Agri-day

The Ultra Cycle also has an “Agri Day” on Day 3, Fri 26th August, starts on Sandymount strand and finishes 265km later in Duncannon beach, Waterford. The Ultra Cycle group welcomes all cycling enthusiasts to join them on the “Agri Day” for fun, laughs and a healthy, community, networking day. You can come and cycle a 65km leg or the full 265km stage.

MASSIVE EFFORT

The commitment is worth the effort

Huge sacrifice, commitment, dedication, endurance and pain is required to get through each of the 4 days - the cyclists keeping their spirits up and hitting their timelines each day. It is the organisers, endurance cyclists, support people & vehicles, corporate donators and donators who make these events so successful each year.

"WE SAY A HUGE THANKS TO ALL INVOLVED"

The charities benefitting from this year’s cycle include Turn2Me, Mayo/Roscommon Hospice Foundation  and Hooves4Hospice

Hooves4Hospice - who are raising vital funds for the cost of building a planned midland regional hospice for the counties of Laois, Longford, Westmeath & Offaly.

Turn2me - as a small charity, donations from fundraisers like this Ultra Cycle are really vital and make a huge difference to the services we can offer people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, grief or relationship issues.

Mayo-Roscommon Hospice Foundation - we are dependant on fundraisers like this to fund our much needed palliative care service in our community and in our Mayo & Roscommon Hospices.
